Kent Armstrong’s Musicman Bass 4 String Replacement Pickup resembles the original in tone and character, but that’s where it ends.
The original Musicman Stingray bass circuit is an active one, it does wonders to tone but requires a 9v battery and dedicated body routing which is not found on many bass models out there. Armstrong took up on the challenge and built their pickup to resemble the tone and output of the original (active) pickup, while being 100% passive! It’s worth noting though, that if you want to precisely nail the Stingray tone, it is recommended to use an active circuit with these pickups.
As it has a 4 conductor lead wire and widely spaced coils, you can wire the Kent Armstrong Musicman Bass 4 String Replacement Pickup in various methods, with or without push-push pots, series/parallel switches and so on.
