Strandberg Boden Classic 6 might not be the oldest or most established guitar brand on the market, but they’ve certainly managed to build up a lot of street-cred in a relatively short space of time. Based in Uppsala, Sweden, they market themselves on a reputation for innovative new approaches to designing electric guitars and one need only take a look at the Boden Classic 6 to see how committed they are to realising this approach in practice.
If you’re not familiar with the headless design or with fanned frets, then the Boden Classic 6 – or any Strandberg Guitar for that matter – might look a little strange at first glance. In designing this guitar, Strandberg have combined several relatively niche styles and the result is a guitar that both looks and feels very different from your average axe.
But does this ergonomic design make for a better guitar?
Fanned frets might look off-putting if you’ve never played with them before, but give this guitar a try and you’ll quickly feel just how much they can do for your intonation. As for the neck, it’s been specially carved to better fit the position of the player’s hand.
The body design is certainly unconventional, but this too is done for a reason. By stripping away all but the necessities, while still keeping an eye for style, Strandberg have created an incredibly lightweight guitar with a distinctive look.
So right now, you might be looking at this and saying to yourself, “okay, it looks cool and maybe it plays well, but what about the sound?”
The Boden Classic 6 is fitted with a humbucker at the bridge, and two single-coil pickups, giving you a lot of variation, as well as a fair bit of power on offer if you need it. Aside from the pickups, Strandberg have heavily prioritised fidelity of sound for precision guitarists who want a nice clean output.
