Gear up and get ready because when you hit the stage with the Warhorn Mid-Range Overdrive from Walrus Audio, you know you’re going into battle. This versatile overdrive pedal is easy to use and comes with so much drive you might as well arrest it for breaking the speed limit. With its deep bass and bright trebles, this modern distortion pedal will reinvent your sound in the best way possible, all at the press of a button.
What more could you want?
What really sets the Warhorn apart from other distortion pedals is its clipping/compression toggle switch, allowing you to alternate between a more compressed, symmetrically clipped tone, and an asymmetric, more open and organic sound. If that all sounds a little technical then don’t worry. You can hear the difference for yourself by switching between the two on our TonePedia player.
Of course, every bit of gear has its pros and cons and the Warhorn is no different.
Too versatile, you’re probably thinking. How can a pedal be too versatile?
Well, while that last criticism might sound a little harsh, it really is worth bearing in mind if you’re thinking of buying the warhorn. By attempting to be more of an all-purpose overdrive whilst remaining easy to use, the Warhorn does stretch itself a little too thin. Some settings sound fantastic, but others – particularly the high trebles – can sound a bit tiny if you’ve not balanced things just right.
Of course, that’s just our take-away. If you want a truly unbiased review, then you’ll have to give it a listen.
