The VOX V846 Wah

Is probably the most famous Wah pedal around. In 1967 VOX JMI produced the first incarnation of a Wah pedal, aka the Grey Wah. Then came the Clyde McCoy and soon after the V846. The VOX V846 had seen many variations, from capacitors, to potentiometers and inductors. Each sounds of course, a bit different.

The Red Fasel Inductor

Most people out there tend to associate the V846 with the Red Fasel inductor. The version we demoed is that version. It sports not only the famous Red Fasel inductor, but also the ERT Potentiometer and Silver can capacitors. It is a 100% original unit. Red Fasel inductors are known to produce deep tones with good clarity and pleasing distorted harmonics. Compared to the infamous Halo inductors, they are less smooth.

But is the VOX V846 better than the “Clyde McCoy” Wah?

Well, that is a tough question to answer. We think that for players the V846 will deliver everything and deliver it well, while not breaking their savings plan. VOX Clyde McCoy wah pedals can cost a pretty penny, while V846 are still somewhat reachable. Sound wise, the VOX V846 is a tad more aggressive and “focused”, while the Clyde McCoy is super smooth. It is actually hard to take sides here, so go test both on our player to make your informed decision.
